Our Ancient Tea Tree Teas come from the remote region of YunNan, which is the birthplace of tea in the world. The oldest wild tea trees, which are over 1500 years old, can be found in YunNan's primeval forests.
Wild ancient tea tree forest
YunNan is surrounded by high altitude mountains that isolate the region from modern pollution. The unpolluted environment in YunNan provides ideal growing conditions for fine teas. Our signature Ancient Tree Teas grow on mountains over 3000 feet above sea level. High altitude areas are optimal for tea cultivation and natural drainage.
However, YunNan is still one of the poorest provinces in China. Therefore, one of our missions is to help tea farmers in YunNan emerge from poverty through tea trade.
NON- Harmful Chemical Pesticide and Fertilizer
Our Teas are grown in pure soils untouched by chemical pesticides or fertilizers. Moreover, some local farmers live in poverty, and they have just enough money to spend on food. They don't even have the extra money to purchase chemical fertilizers and pesticides. Local tea farmers usually raise livestock and pluck tea leaves to support their families. For Tea Farmers who own Tea Trees on mountain backyards, they typically use organic fertilizers from their livestock to fertilize the tea trees.
- There are also some local tea farmers who pluck wild tea leaves from deep mountain forests. They take hours to climb into the mountains to find wild tea trees, and they will spend a whole day in the forest. It is a very dangerous job, especially during the rainy spring season when landslides happen frequently in remote mountains of YunNan.
-
We collect fresh raw tea leaves from tea farmers, and they get paid fairly according to the weight of tea leaves they pluck. Then, we use the traditional pan-fry method to further process the fresh leaves in our workshop and place the tea under the sun for the drying process.
The picture below shows the sun-drying process for Ancient Tree Teas and the female tea entrepreneur, Mrs. Li, in the workshop. We purchase our Ancient Tree Golden Needle Black Tea from her family every year. It takes five hours of driving on mountain roads to arrive at her home.
- 我們每年都幫她們收購大批品質優良的古樹金芽紅茶,去她們深山的家購茶要在陡峭的山路開車5個小時才能到達
-
TanLong Tea's HengFungXiang Tea Factory packages the teas before delivering them to consumers. Like fine wine, our Ancient Tea Tree Teas are limited in quantity and provide delightful subtle variations from season to season.
Our Ancient Tea Tree Teas are hand-pressed using traditional rock press methods and packaged with bamboo leaves, following the time-honored techniques that have been passed down through generations.
We also purchase fresh tea leaves from tea farmers in various remote mountain areas. Through fair tea trade, they can eventually build new homes and schools for their children.
TEA ADVENTURE - CHECK OUT OUR TEA ADVENTURE! OUR TEAS ARE THE RESULT OF HARD WORK AND RISK.
Some tea farmers pluck wild tea leaves from deep mountain forests. They hike for hours, and then climb up the wild trees to harvest the younger leaves. Usually, they spend a whole day in the forest harvesting these ancient leaves. This job doesn't come without danger, especially during the rainy spring season when landslides occur frequently and can be deadly.
